Key turning point dates for US equities

Writer: The Time FactorThe Time Factor

Watching what a financial market does toward the end of a calendar year and the beginning of a new one gives us useful clues as to what we can expect for significant turning points ahead.

In the chart below, I have highlighted a number of key dates within US equities, which I am basing my short term calculations off to identify key periods within the month for which we can look out for changes in trend.

The first are the red circles, where significant changes in trend have occurred at the very end of the month. Notice how the time frames between 30 August and 29 November are 3 months apart? This is the highest probability time period (90 days / degrees) together with significant turns 4 and 6 months apart.

Extrapolating time forward would then give us:

  • 29-31 March (120 degrees from 29 Nov)

  • 29-30 April (90 degrees from 31 Jan)

The green circle are the next key turning points, with significant changes in trend regularly occurring around the 3-4th of each month.

from the 4 November low, going forward 120 degrees gives us 3 March 2025. Likewise, moving forward 90 degrees from the 4 December high gives us 4 March for a significant change in trend to occur. The next significant date in this sequence is 3-5th of June - so watch that time over the next couple of months.

Lastly, I want to point attention to the 13 Jan low that occurred this year (purple circle). Projecting forward 90 degrees from that date gives us the 13-15th April to look out for.

If we are anticipating a major turning point in April these are the types of dates I look for to see for a confirmation of any major low forming.

Until next time...
